Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favourite door photos from around the world. It is hosted by Dan, see his Blog 'No Facilities'.
This week, my Thursday Doors are in lovely Lymm.
Lymm is a large village and civil parish in Warrington, Cheshire, England. Its a lovely place about 30 miles from us and where my daughter and her family live.
It's Celtic translation is a "place of running water". A stream runs through the village centre from Lymm Dam (an old reservoir) and runs down into a valley underneath the Bridgewater Canal. It's a popular destination for canal dwellers and tourists as its not only very pretty, but also full of cafes, restaurants and pubs. There is quite a celebrity contingent resident in Lymm including Ian Brown of the Stone Roses, Tim Booth from James and Matthew Corbett from the Sooty Show, and several other TV stars and sports stars.
The first door is the old entrance to the village library, shown here with one of our grandsons posing in front. The library was closed due to lockdown when this was taken but he is so happy now that it has re-opened. I just love the colour of this door and its iron hinges.
This picture is one of the cottages in the village facing the Village duck pond. This was taken in February but the colours are bright and colourful.
This is the row of cottages in summer. The coloured doors look great against the whitewashed frontages.
Here is a beautiful cottage next to the road bridge in the village centre. (Its been photographed zillions of times.) It belongs to Matthew Corbett of 'The Sooty Show' fame and is now up for sale.
Finally, just outside Lymm is this stunning pair of early 1900s houses. I love how original and immaculately presented they are and how the garden extends onto the houses. The different coloured front doors and sills make a real but subtle statement.
You have such a wonderful collection. My favorite is that first one, with your grandson. He looks pretty happy in that photo. I love the blue and yellow doors. They are colors we don't see often and they really brighten up the scene. The iconic bridge and river scene is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dan. Yes it's a lovely stretch of canal and only seconds walk from the main village.
DeleteLovely doors, especially the blue one with the little boy also wearing blue.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes that's my grandson. It's just coincidence he's in blue.
ReplyDeleteI love them all, especially the first and the last two. And that bridge!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Glad you liked them. I think the blue door is my favourite but that could be because my grandson is in the picture.
DeleteI especially like those first two doors. Was the library once a church? The door (what a lovely color) looks like a church door.

Thanks for commenting. I think the building was originally a school house connected to the adjacent church but it's been a library since 1968. Thankfully it hasn't been externally modified!
DeleteYour doors are photographed beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie.
Deletebeautiful doors indeed
