#Thursday Doors - Torri del Benaco, Lake Garda, Italy

I haven't taken any door photos this week so my entry to Dan Antion's Thursday Doors photo challenge   is a collection of rediscovered photos taken in 2008. I took them whilst on holiday in the picturesque village of Torri del Benaco which lies on the eastern shore of Lake Garda in Italy.    Torri del Benaco is one of those villages that make you feel like you took a step back into the Middle Ages with its medieval walls and towers. Some of the houses have colourful facades in warm yellow colours and others are in local stone. Many are decorated with porticoes and pretty balconies reminiscent of Juliet’s house in Verona. I think this first first façade  with its balcony, light colourful stone, arched door and potted plants is an absolute gem! The next two wooden doors are such a wonderful rich brown colour. Below is the the baroque church "Santi Pietro e Paolo".    Those old back street apartments with stone and render walls, archways, shutters, lamps, window boxes a

#Thursday Doors - Arundel, West Sussex

Welcome Door Lovers everywhere. In response to Dan Antion's Thursday Doors Photo Challenge last week, I gave you some doors from Chichester and Bosham in West Sussex. Here are some more Sussex doors which I photographed in Arundel - an old market town in the South Downs. This little town is stunning and has a medieval castle, a Catholic cathedral, the River Arun and some wonderful streets with a variety of Georgian and much older buildings. My first door is one of the gateways to the Castle.  Little gems can be found in the back streets... There are also some grand Georgian street houses..... That's all for this week.  I hope you liked them.

#Thursday Doors - West Sussex

I am returning to Dan Antion's Thursday Doors weekly photo challenge after a bit of a break, the reasons for which I wont go into now.  Anyway,  I am glad to be back sharing my photographs and looking at wonderful doors from around the world courtesy of Dan's site  No Facilities .  This week my doors are in West Sussex - Chichester, and Bosham in particular.  I also have some great door pictures taken in the Sussex market town of Arundel but I don't want to overload you so I'll post those next time. First here are some doors in the grounds of, or on the edge of Chichester Cathedral. The next couple are in Chichester Cathedral which is a stunning building inside and out. I am cheating by including an archway rather than a door but I thought you might like it. The scene shows the colourful John Piper Holy Trinity Tapestry at the high alter. Below is larger photograph of the tapestry. Next are some doors in Bosham, a picture postcard village on the edge of Chichester h

Not another Trouser Fire?

At our local pub quiz, which I’m pleased to say is now back on, the landlord normally kicks off with some topical news questions and some trending funny stories.  I usually prepare by looking at the news headlines and social media.  This is how I came across a story on the Huffington Postweb site about Miami defence lawyer Stephen Gutierrez.  Although this story goes back to 2017 and would not be featured in the quiz, I couldn’t resist reading it.  Gutierrez was giving his closing statement for his client who was accused of intentionally setting his car on fire, arguing that the car had spontaneously combusted.  Coincidentally, the lawyer’s own pants appeared to do just that. As his pants began to burn, Gutierrez had to cut short his statement and run out of the courtroom.  The cause was apparently e-cigarette batteries in his pocket.  E–cigarette batteries and mobile phone batteries have been known to cause fires or explosions and some serious injuries have been sustained as a resul
